The ''Boise River is More Precious than Gold” Tour

Idaho Conservation League’s “The Boise River is More Precious than Gold” River Tour
Float trips highlight the many uses and faces of the Boise River

You are invited to join the staff of the Idaho Conservation League, concerned citizens,
and local paddlers committed to protecting the Boise River from cyanide, mining waste,
and other pollutants. The Boise River provides clean water for irrigation, drinking and
recreation, used by hundreds of thousands of Idahoans.

WHAT: A series of river trips from the headwaters of the Boise River near Atlanta down to the confluence with the Snake River. Each day we will hear presentations from local community members about the challenges facing the Boise River.

WHEN: Daily on August 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. You are invited to join us for the presentation at the start of each day or to paddle with us for any or all of the five key sections. If you cannot join us on the water, we can arrange to be in a certain place at a certain time for interviews, photographs, and video.

WHERE: Monday, August 8: Upper Middle Fork Boise River in downtown Atlanta
Join us for an informal meeting with Atlanta residents at 11 am. Most of this section is too low or rocky to float, but we can paddle several short sections to see how the river has been affected by previous mining activities.

Tuesday, August 9: Confluence of the Middle and North Forks of the Boise River
Meet at the confluence of the Middle and North Forks Boise River at 10 am for an 11-mile paddle down to Willow Creek campground. This stretch serves as a blue-ribbon trout fishery.

Wednesday, August 10: Boise River from Highway 21 Bridge to Ann Morrison
Meet at Warm Springs Avenue and Highway 21 at 10 am for a 7.5-mile paddle to Ann Morrison Park. This is an important section for drinking water and recreation.

Thursday, August 12: Boise River from Star to Caldwell
Meet at the Star Road Bridge at 10 am for a 12-mile paddle down to the River Gates Dam in Caldwell. Water quality is an important concern along this stretch.

Friday, August 12: Boise River from Notus to the confluence with the Snake River
Meet at the Notus Road Bridge at 10 am for a 14-mile float down to the confluence with the Snake River. This stretch provides important habitat for wildlife.
