"One of my favorite things to do is to take my dog Zeus on a paddle."

Jimmy Smith Idaho River Sports SUP ambassadorJimmy Smith is one of the reasons Idaho River Sports became a leader in stand up paddle boarding in Idaho. According to a 2012 profile published in the Boise Weekly entitled "Stand-Up Paddle Boarding - Don't try this at home, kids", Waj Nasser said "Smith has the loamy demeanor of a carefree surfer and brings an infectious love of SUP to his instructional sessions." Jimmy's background is in ocean surfing, but he is enthused by the paddling opportunities in Idaho, and it comes across when he teaches. He loves paddling the Boise River just below the dam and knows lots of spots along the river he likes to explore.

"His easygoing style was the perfect confidence builder for my wife and me, and within minutes of our first lesson we were gliding along the pond with relative ease." said Waj.

Jimmy is a fan of SUP boards that are designed to move fast and accurately. But, as Jimmy likes to point out when he teaches his classes and gives students a tour of Idaho River Sports, there are lots of different SUP boards for different uses from flatwater to whitewater and SUP surfing to racing. His favorites include Hobie (the famous surfboard maker), Starboard SUP boards and he's a huge fan of the complete line of Werner Paddles' SUP paddles. Idaho River Sports is a dealer for both, as well as one of the top Werner Paddles dealers in the Northwest. Idaho River Sports also carries Glide, Surftech, BIC SUP and NRS SUP boards as well as a complete line of accessories, clothing and

Also in 2012 Jimmy, along with Idaho River Sports, was featured in the Boise Weekly Best of Boise awards for Best Way to Walk on Water. In December 2013 Idaho River Sports got the entire SUP staff American Canoe Association SUP Instructor certifications. One more way to help Jimmy teach our students how to "walk on water".
